The Cranston West Falcons will head out on the road to square off against the St. Mary Academy-Bay View Bengals at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Cranston West's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last six contests.
On Wednesday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Cranston West beat East Providence 56-50. The win was just what Cranston West needed coming off of a 78-56 loss in their prior game.
Cranston West got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kyla Buco out in front who scored 19 points along with five steals. Buco has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Tedeschi-Moran, who scored 13 points along with six assists and two steals.
Meanwhile, St. Mary Academy-Bay View faced Portsmouth in a battle between two of the state's top teams. St. Mary Academy-Bay View walked away with a 50-43 win over Portsmouth on Monday. The win was familiar territory for St. Mary Academy-Bay View who now have five in a row.
Cranston West pushed their record up to 8-5 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.3 points per game. As for St. Mary Academy-Bay View, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.
Cranston West suffered a grim 54-34 defeat to St. Mary Academy-Bay View when the teams last played back in January of 2023. Can Cranston West avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
