The Arcata Tigers and the Moreau Catholic Mariners squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly the Arcata Tigers had to settle for second. Arcata fell just short of Moreau Catholic by a score of 21-18. Arcata's loss signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.
Despite the defeat, Arcata had strong showings from Cole Vanden plas, who threw for 261 yards and three touchdowns, and Luke Lemke, who picked up 78 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Arcata's loss dropped their record down to 8-3. As for Moreau Catholic, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-5 record this season.
Arcata does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Moreau Catholic will be playing in front of their home fans against Salesian College Preparatory at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in California (Salesian College Preparatory is ranked 357th, while Moreau Catholic is ranked 355th).
