It was a good run, but The Lemon Bay Manta Rays unfortunately witnessed the end of their nine-game winning streak dating back to last season on Friday. They were beaten by First Baptist Academy 44-13. Lemon Bay lost against First Baptist Academy in their previous head to head back in October of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 35-7 score last time.
Several Manta Rays players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Joseph Scott, who gained 90 total yards and a touchdown.
Ethan Crossan was his usual excellent self, throwing for 444 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 12.0 yards per attempt. Crossan is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last four games he's played. Winston Watkins jr. was another key contributor, picking up 218 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Lemon Bay's defeat dropped their record down to 8-1. As for First Baptist Academy, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 7-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lemon Bay will stay at home for another week and welcome Booker at 7:30 p.m. on October 27th. First Baptist Academy will take on Community School of Naples at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Community School of Naples is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
