Nixa faced Ozark in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Eagles narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Tigers 3-2. Winning may never get old, but the Eagles sure are getting used to it with their ninth in a row.
Nixa wouldn't go down easily and took Ozark into a fifth set where they got it done with a five-point win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 23-25, 25-23, 26-24, 23-25, 15-10.
Gwen Kubik paced Nixa's offense, picking up 20 kills. Kubik got some help from Taylor Wood and her 28 assists. Allie Pearcy controlled things from the service line, finishing with two aces.
Despite the loss, Ozark still got an impressive performance from Bradie Soloman, who had 14 digs and one assist. Another player making a difference was Brooklyn Soloman, who had ten digs and one assist.
Nixa's victory bumped their record up to 24-9. As for Ozark, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 10-1 and their overall record down to 29-2.
Coming up, Nixa will square off against Glendale at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Ozark, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 3-0 win against Waynesville on the 16th.
