The Hawken Hawks will head out on the road to square off against the Lutheran West Longhorns at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Hawken has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while Lutheran West will arrive with three straight wins.
While Hawken couldn't quite beat Wickliffe on Tuesday, the three-point margin was a huge improvement compared to the 22-point loss they were dealt on Saturday. Hawken fell just short of Wickliffe by a score of 45-42.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Sarah Liu, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Cicerini, who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds.
Hawken was without their leading scorer, Julia Scales, in Tuesday's game. With Scales sidelined, Hawken had to make some changes to the lineup. And. Lynette Zuzindlak made the most of the opportunity, scoring five points. A few more games like that and she might be seeing even more time going forward.
Meanwhile, Lutheran West beat Beachwood 39-26 on Friday.
Hawken has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 12 of their last 14 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-16 record this season. As for Lutheran West, their victory bumped their record up to 10-8.
