It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Clovis Cougars had no problem doing just that on Friday. They claimed a resounding 42-7 win over St. Joseph at home. With Clovis ahead 28-7 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
Clovis' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Deagan Rose, who threw for 343 yards and four touchdowns while completing 85.7% of his passes, and also punched in a rushing score. Tyler Marquez was another key contributor, picking up 138 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Clovis has yet to lose a contest at home this season, leaving them with a 8-4 record. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 37.0 points per game. As for St. Joseph, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-3.
Clovis will head out on the road to face off against Liberty at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in California (Liberty is ranked 35th, while Clovis is ranked 48th). St. Joseph does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
