AAA Region 8 recap Sept. 26, 2012
North Oconee was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in AAA Region 8. Earlier in the week, the Titans defeated Athens Christian 44-0.
Jackson County moved up to 254 from 314 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. A 47-7 win over East Jackson helped the Panthers improve their standing.
North Oconee's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Nick Colvin threw for 127 and one touchdown and John Jarrard had 80 yards receiving. On the ground Zantravious Shields chipped in 79 yards. Zack Sims helped North Oconee's passing attack out by catching three balls for 33 yards.
North Oconee's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Titans feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Colvin has thrown for 231 yards and two touchdowns this season, while Sims has five catches for 101 yards. Kevon Hudson leads the league in rushing with 144 yards.
A big matchup in AAA Region 8 this week will be when the Titans take on Jackson County. North Oconee is in third place, while the Panthers are in second place.
The Titans took down the Eagles 44-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Colvin ran for 13 yards in the win.
