The Brook Hill Guard are taking a road trip to challenge the Mansfield Homeschool Knights at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Brook Hill 4.1, Mansfield Homeschool 2.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Brook Hill is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 12 runs two weeks ago, they were much more limited against Tatum on Friday. They came up short against the Eagles, falling 8-1. The Guard's loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mansfield Homeschool). They blew past Pryor 19-1 on Friday. Winning may never get old, but the Knights sure are getting used to it with their seventh in a row.
Ashton Widmer made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Those six RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Mansfield Homeschool let Michael Davis and Zac Heefner run wild. Davis went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Heefner scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. That's the most hits Davis has posted since back in February. Joshua Robbins was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Mansfield Homeschool hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive games.
Mansfield Homeschool pushed their record up to 24-6-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Brook Hill, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-3.
Brook Hill couldn't quite get it done against Mansfield Homeschool when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 3-0. Can the Guard avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
