The Roy Royals's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight loss. They took a 63-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of Eagle. While losing is never fun, Roy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 71st in Utah, while Eagle is ranked 13th in Idaho).
Several Royals players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Dahlen Pontius, who scored 13 points along with five steals. Those five steals set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Colby Frokjer, who scored nine points along with ten rebounds.
Roy struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Leading Eagle to victory were Cal Huish and Miguel Taylor. Huish scored 16 points along with five rebounds and three blocks, while Taylor scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. That's the first time this season that Huish scored 15 or more points. Cole Pugh was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Roy's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Eagle, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2.
Roy will head out on the road to face off against Shelley at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Eagle won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Sky View at 6:20 p.m. on December 15th. Hopefully Sky View focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Thursday.
