The Burke County Bears stacked an eighth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. Everything went their way against Islands as Burke County made off with a 82-60 victory. Given Burke County's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 173rd, while Islands is ranked 355th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Burke County's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from La'Quinton Morgan, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten assists. Derrick Streetman was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with five rebounds.
Burke County's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-4. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.5 points per game. As for Islands, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-9.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Burke County won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Jenkins County at 7:30 p.m. on January 20th. One thing working in Jenkins County's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four matches. Islands on the road again on Tuesday and play against Benedictine at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd.
