Newberg hasn't had much luck against Century recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Tigers will head out to take on the Jaguars at 5:00 p.m. The last three games Newberg has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Friday as neither Newberg nor Forest Grove made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Tigers fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 2-0. Considering the last time the Tigers couldn't score was back in April, the team can't take the result too hard.
Cole Thomas spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last match, Century made sure to put some runs up on the board against North Salem on Tuesday. The Jaguars blew past the Vikings 17-0. The Jaguars have beaten the Vikings the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Vikings has come to flipping the script.
Damien Elizarraras was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Elizarraras was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jadon Dinh, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kale Naone, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Century always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Newberg's loss dropped their record down to 12-11. As for Century, their record is now 10-13.
Newberg couldn't quite finish off Century in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 and fell 3-1. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
