Bedford North Lawrence proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by six) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a run and slipped past Jasper 6-5. The Stars haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Ava Ratliff was incredible, getting on base in four of her six plate appearances with one home run and two RBI. Kendall Graves was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one home run and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Trinity Lutheran hadn't done well against Lanesville recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Cougars walked away with a 6-3 win over the Eagles. Six seems to be a good number for the Cougars as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Grace Lance made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emerson Warren, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Brooklyn Whipker also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Bedford North Lawrence's win was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-9. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.9 runs over those games. As for Trinity Lutheran, their win ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-10.
Trinity Lutheran's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Bedford North Lawrence hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .340. It's a different story for Trinity Lutheran, though, as they've only averaged .255. Will they be able to contain Bedford North Lawrence's hitters?
Everything went Bedford North Lawrence's way against Trinity Lutheran when the teams last played back in April of 2018, as Bedford North Lawrence made off with a 12-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Stars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
