River Oaks has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. The River Oaks Mustangs and the Prairie View Academy Spartans will face off at 4:00 p.m. on January 18th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
Last Friday, River Oaks came up short against West Side Christian and fell 59-47.
Meanwhile, Prairie View Academy scored the most points they've had all season to find success last Tuesday. They strolled past Franklin Academy with points to spare, taking the game 79-65. The victory was a breath of fresh air for Prairie View Academy as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Prairie View Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Abram Anthony led the charge by dropping a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. Anthony has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Mason Tullos, who scored 19 points along with six rebounds and five assists.
River Oaks has been struggling recently, as they've lost nine of their last 12 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-14 record this season. As for Prairie View Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 12-4.
Everything came up roses for River Oaks against Prairie View Academy in their previous matchup back in January of 2020 as the team secured a 57-23 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for River Oaks since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
