The Gila Ridge Hawks waltzed into their matchup on Monday with six straight wins but they left with seven. They breezed by San Luis at home to the tune of 55-20. Gila Ridge has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 22 points or more this season.
Leading Gila Ridge to victory were Kayla McCarrell and Bella DeCorse. McCarrell scored 13 points along with three steals, while DeCorse scored 14 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points McCarrell has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Hannah Hayes, who scored seven points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, San Luis struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Gila Ridge posted 16 assists.
Gila Ridge is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-2 record this season. As for San Luis, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season.
Gila Ridge will head out on the road to challenge the Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Arizona (Desert Ridge is ranked 80th, while the Hawks are ranked 87th). As for San Luis, they will be playing at home against the Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Cibola's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last six matches.
