The Lone Peak Knights will challenge the Pleasant Grove Vikings at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Pleasant Grove will be up against a hot Lone Peak squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. Everything went the Knights' way against Westlake on Friday as they made off with an 8-1 win.
Grady Slesk was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Jordan Tucker was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Pleasant Grove faced Lehi in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Vikings blew past the Pioneers 9-3. Considering the Vikings have won 12 contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Pleasant Grove also got a great performance from Van Haynie as he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Drew Smith, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Nash Bennett, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Pleasant Grove hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in eight consecutive matches.
Pleasant Grove's victory bumped their record up to 18-4. As for Lone Peak, the win got them back to even at 11-11.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lone Peak hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .314. However, it's not like Pleasant Grove struggles in that department as they've averaged .346. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
