Baseball Game Preview: Cottonwood Colts vs. Park City Miners

For the second straight game, Cottonwood will face off against Park City. The Colts will take on the Miners at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Cottonwood has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with three straight losses, while Park City will come in with ten straight victories.

Cottonwood came up short against Park City on Wednesday, falling 12-4.

For Park City's part, Royal Matthews made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Matthews has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double.

In other pitching news, Mason Mendoza looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Justin Michaelis was excellent, scoring two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Jack Gallagher also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Park City always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cottonwood only posted an OBP of .323.

Park City pushed their record up to 13-3 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.2 runs over those games. As for Cottonwood, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-5.

Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Cottonwood hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .339. However, it's not like Park City struggles in that department as they've averaged .342. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
