Fans got a thrill when Xavier Johnson and Randall Emerson connected against Cape Fear. The longest such play in 4A/3A Conference 17 this season, the connection resulted in 58 yards.
West Brunswick moved up to 173 from 217 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Trojans climbed the ranks as a result of besting Corinth Holders 44-37.
Hoggard's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Johnson threw for 91 and 1 touchdown and Emerson had 71 yards receiving. On the ground Trevor Brown contributed 201 yards. Harrison Smith helped Hoggard's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 56 yards.
Malik Moore was a key player and the best on defense this week as the Vikings bested the Colts. He racked up 2 sacks.
Brown provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Hoggard topped Cape Fear. Brown's key target this week was Emerson, who caught 2 passes for 71 yards.
Emerson was the best receiver in the league this week as Scott Braswell's team beat Jacob Thomas' team. Smith helped Hoggard's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 56 yards.
5-foot-11 quarterback DYLAN DARGUZAS of West Brunswick is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1,003. He has also thrown 5 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Emerson. The Hoggard star has 40 catches for 625 yards.
The top two teams in 4A/3A Conference 17 will face off this week when first place Hoggard takes on second place New Hanover. Last week, the Vikings defeated the Colts, while New Hanover bested Northern.
In 119 carries Jeavonne Batts has put up 908 yards this year.

The Vikings added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Colts, 21-7. The victory was the eighth in a row for Hoggard.
