II Section I recap Sept. 26, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Kellis, who took down 63rd ranked Ironwood, 18-15. Blaine Freeman ran for 107 yards and caught one passes for 35 yards in the win.
Chavez extended the longest winning streak in II Section I this week by beating Independence, 54-0. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
Dylan Morgan was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 171 yards on 14 carries as Lake Havasu defeated Sierra Linda. Teammate Jeremy Janis added to the ground attack by rushing for 70 yards.
Brown was the best wideout in the league this week as the Stampede bested the Bulldogs. Brown racked up two receptions for 104 yards. Joe Dodd helped Fairfax's passing attack out by catching one ball for 33 yards.
Arturo Macias put up the best numbers through the air as Chavez topped the Patriots. He finished with a total of 10 completions for 258 yards and four touchdowns. Macias' favorite target this week was Jaylyn Shans, who caught four passes for 102 yards.
5-foot-9 quarterback Jordan Gungl of Apollo is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1149. He has also thrown 15 touchdowns. On the ground, the Eagles' Jett Robertson has rushed for 757 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Brown. The Fairfax star has eight catches for 398 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Millennium takes on bill patter's team. At the moment, the Tigers are in third, while the Champions are in first.
The Hawks suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after a 53-0 loss to the Hawks. Apollo had been ranked 21st, but fell to 33 following the defeat.
