Two dominant signal callers in Jake South and Braden Luedeker are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Pieper Warriors will take on the Mission Veterans Memorial Patriots at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Pieper comes in on nine and Mission Veterans Memorial on five.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Pieper walked away with it. They didn't even let Sam Houston onto the board and left with a 33-0 win on Friday. Given Pieper's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 126th, while Sam Houston is ranked 711th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
South was the offensive standout of the contest as he threw for 326 yards and three touchdowns. South has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last five times he's played. Isaiah Champagne also helped out with an impressive 141 receiving yards.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Sam Houston to a paltry 71 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Pieper's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid the passer out six times before it was all said and done. Hyrum McCarter was especially locked on to Sam Houston's QB and sacked him three times.
Meanwhile, Mission Veterans Memorial can now show off five landslide victories after their most recent match on Friday. They claimed a resounding 43-6 win over Valley View at home. Mission Veterans Memorial pushed the score to 43-0 by the end of the third, a deficit Valley View cut but never quite recovered from.
Luedeker continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 118 yards and three touchdowns on only ten carries, while also throwing for 241 yards and two touchdowns. Luedeker hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Abel Lucio, who picked up 47 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Pieper has yet to lose a match at home this season, leaving them with a 10-1 record. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 49.4 points per game. As for Mission Veterans Memorial, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.
Keep an eye on the end zone in Friday's game as Pieper and Mission Veterans Memorial haven't had much trouble getting there this season. Pieper commands a daunting offense this season, having averaged 6.2 touchdowns per game. However, it's not like Mission Veterans Memorial struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.2 per game. With these two high-octane teams facing off on Friday, fans should be in for an exciting offensive matchup. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
