The Vina Red Devils will take on the Lynn Bears at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Vina has now lost nine straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since February 24.
On Tuesday, Vina came up short against Brilliant and fell 7-2.
Braxtyn Quinn was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one double. That stolen base was her first of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lynn). They blew past Phillips 18-5 on Tuesday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded Lynn with their most commanding win of the season.
Kaylee Wiginton looked comfortable as she struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in strikeouts.
On the hitting side, Amy Barton and Molly Pate did most of the damage at the plate: Barton went 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Pate scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Those three runs gave Barton a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alyssa McKinney, who scored a run and stole a base.
Vina's defeat dropped their record down to 4-10. As for Lynn, their victory bumped their record up to 7-4-1.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Vina hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .366. However, it's not like Lynn struggles in that department as they've averaged .337. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Vina came out on top in a nail-biter against Lynn in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. Will Vina repeat their success, or does Lynn have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
