The St. Cloud Tech/Apollo Tigers had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Sauk Rapids-Rice 73-70. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Despite the loss, Sauk Rapids-Rice still got an impressive performance from Courtney Paulsen, who dropped a double-double on 33 points and 12 rebounds. The game was Paulsen's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Olivia Mohs was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with eight rebounds.
St. Cloud Tech/Apollo's win bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Sauk Rapids-Rice, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-3.
St. Cloud Tech/Apollo will head out on the road to face off against Willmar at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Willmar is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. As for Sauk Rapids-Rice, they will be playing at home against Fergus Falls at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday.
