Halifax Academy is on a three-game streak of home wins, while the Vikings are on a six-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Halifax Academy Vikings will take on the Brunswick Academy Vikings at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Halifax Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in their respective state's rankings (they are ranked 283rd in North Carolina, while the Vikings are ranked 141st in Virginia).
Halifax Academy struggled with assists on Tuesday (the Eagles had eight more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Halifax Academy was outmatched by the Eagles on the road and fell 62-33.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Hayden Barlow, who scored eight points along with nine assists and two steals. Another player making a difference was Carolina Corum, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and two steals.
In what's become a running theme this season, Brunswick Academy gave their fans yet another huge victory on Monday. They blew past Southampton Academy 38-15.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Brunswick Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Emily King, who scored 23 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which King has scored at least a third of Brunswick Academy's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lexi Howerton, who scored 12 points.
Halifax Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Brunswick Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 14-4.
Keep an eye on the arc in Thursday's game: Halifax Academy have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 38.3% of their threes per game. It's a different story for Brunswick Academy, though, as they've only made 17.3% of their threes this season. Given Halifax Academy's sizable advantage in that area, the Vikings will need to find a way to close that gap.
Halifax Academy and the Vikings were neck-and-neck when the teams last played back in December of 2019, but the Vikings came up empty-handed after a 39-38 loss. Can Halifax Academy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
