The Ponaganset Chieftains will square off against the Toll Gate Titans at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Ponaganset is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Rhode Island's top teams: North Providence, who was ranked 22nd at the time (Ponaganset was ranked 25th). The Chieftains' pitcher stepped up to hand the Cougars an 18-0 shutout on Monday. That looming 18-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Chieftains yet this season.
Mattea Mello looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
