After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Laneville, the Apple Springs Eagles were happy to have found some success on Friday. They snuck past Slocum with a 69-64 victory. With that victory, Apple Springs brought their scoring average up to 50.3 points per game.
Leading Apple Springs to victory were Zeth Dugat and Dakota Campbell. Dugat scored 21 points along with seven assists, while Campbell scored 24 points along with five assists and five rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Campbell has scored at least 25% of Apple Springs' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Caden Diaz, who scored 11 points along with three steals.
Despite the defeat, Slocum saw an underclassman step up: Carter Sbrusch scored 26 points. The matchup was Sbrusch's 18th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Brayden Daniels, who scored 12 points.
Apple Springs has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season. As for Slocum, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost nine of their last 12 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Apple Springs will take on Neches at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Slocum, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Laneville at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Laneville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up five on Friday.
