Concord is 8-2 against Springport since January of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Concord Yellowjackets will be playing at home against the Springport Spartans at 7:00 p.m. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Last Saturday, Concord was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 54-48 to Gull Lake. It was the first time this season that Concord let down their fans at home.
Despite the loss, Concord got a solid performance out of Mekhi Wingfield, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 12 rebounds. That was a full 50% of Concord's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Jordan Medellin was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Springport's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell 63-56 to Bronson. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Tucker Wiginton, who scored 18 points. He hasn't dropped below 15points for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Braydon Hawes, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Concord's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-4. As for Springport, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-3.
Wednesday's matchup is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Concord have been dynamite from deep this season, having drained 40.6% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Springport struggles in that department as they've made 42.2% of their threes per game this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for Concord against Springport in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 as the squad secured a 71-37 victory. Will Concord repeat their success, or does Springport have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
