New Bloomfield hasn't had much luck against St. Elizabeth recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The New Bloomfield Wildcats just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the St. Elizabeth Hornets at 7:00 p.m. New Bloomfield is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.4 points per game this season.
New Bloomfield is headed into Friday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their eighth straight game on Thursday. They took a blow against Harrisburg, falling 76-29. The contest marked the Wildcats' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Despite the defeat, New Bloomfield saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Trenton Boessen posted ten points.
Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely St. Elizabeth's strategy against Tuscumbia on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that St. Elizabeth blew Tuscumbia out of the water with an 81-49 final score. The Hornets have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matches by 24 points or more this season.
New Bloomfield better keep an eye on Gavin Williams. He was instrumental in St. Elizabeth's win, almost dropping a double-double with nine points and ten boards. Williams also grabbed six steals, which is notable because St. Elizabeth is 10-2 when he posts at least three steals, but 6-7 otherwise. Nick Heckemeyer was another key player, dropping a double-double with 14 points and ten rebounds.
St. Elizabeth smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 28 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since the start of last season.
St. Elizabeth pushed their record up to 16-9 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 76.2 points over those games. As for New Bloomfield, their loss dropped their record down to 7-17.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: New Bloomfield has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 28 boards per game. However, it's not like St. Elizabeth struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32.9 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
New Bloomfield came up short against St. Elizabeth when the teams last played back in February of 2024, falling 65-61. Can New Bloomfield avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
