Jacobs has gone 9-1 against Crystal Lake South recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. Jacobs took a 11-run loss the last time they faced off against McHenry, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Golden Eagles sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 10-9 win over the Warriors on Wednesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Golden Eagles needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
Audrey Wetzel was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Kate Takasaki and Talia Disilvio did most of the damage at the plate: Takasaki went 1-for-3 with one home run, while Disilvio went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That stolen base was Disilvio's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jianna Tanada, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Jacobs lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. They are 2-1 when they post two or more home runs.
Meanwhile, Crystal Lake South was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 13th straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 13-3 to Cary-Grove.
Riley Barda was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and one double.
Crystal Lake South's loss dropped their record down to 0-10. As for Jacobs, their victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-9.
Crystal Lake South's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Jacobs hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .317. It's a different story for Crystal Lake South, though, as they've only averaged .204. Will they be able to contain Jacobs' hitters?
