Highland Prep West extended their winning streak to three on Monday, bumping them up to 9-8. They were the clear victors by a 24-1 margin over the Tempe Prep Knights. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 21-4 back in March.
Emily Fierros made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Magic Warner, who fired off two home runs, two stolen bases, and three runs while going 3-for-4. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games she's played. Sofia Serrano was another key player, going 2-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Highland Prep West hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive contests.
As for Tempe Prep, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-10. Having soared to a lofty 22 runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.
On Tempe Prep's side, they saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Eleanor Cook, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base.
Looking ahead, Highland Prep West is taking a road trip to take on Madison Highland Prep at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Heat have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.64 runs per game on average), something the unknown will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Tempe Prep, they will welcome St. Augustine Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
