Roosevelt hasn't had much luck against Jackson-Reed recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Roughriders will be playing in front of their home fans against the Tigers at 4:00 p.m. Roosevelt has given up an average of 7.8 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
The home team had come away the winner the last four times Roosevelt and School Without Walls had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Roughriders lost 11-4 to the Penguins on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Jackson-Reed faced Eastern in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Tigers never let the Ramblers get on the board and left with a 12-0 victory. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 games by six runs or more this season.
Zander Leckszas looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five).
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jackson Loomis, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Evan Rosario, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs.
Jackson-Reed always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Eastern only posted an OBP of .118.
Jackson-Reed pushed their record up to 17-4 with the win, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Roosevelt, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.
Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Roosevelt has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .492. However, it's not like Jackson-Reed struggles in that department as they've averaged .529. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Roosevelt might still be hurting after the 24-0 loss they got from Jackson-Reed when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Roughriders have more luck at home instead of on the road?
