Softball Recap: Sanborn Regional Drops Season-High Score on Milford

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sanborn Regional). They blew past the Milford Spartans 31-4 on Tuesday. With that win, the Indians brought their scoring average up to 7.7 runs per game.

Phoebe Hood made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 5-for-6 with four runs, five RBI, and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Hannah Lambert was incredible, firing off two home runs, eight RBI, and four runs while getting on base in all six of her plate appearances. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Hailey Boyd was another key player, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with five runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.

Sanborn Regional always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .720. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Sanborn Regional has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Milford, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Sanborn Regional will square off against rival Oyster River at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Indians 4.1, the Bobcats 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Milford is set to take on their familiar foe Hanover at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
