The ALA - West Foothills Guardians will face off against the Gilbert Christian Knights at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. ALA - West Foothills is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.
ALA - West Foothills took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They never let Blue Ridge get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory. The Guardians' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Ava LaHair made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. LaHair was even better at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two triples, three RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, Madelyn Caines was a standout: she scored two runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Olivia Gonzalez was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
ALA - West Foothills was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .600. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .318 or higher in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Gilbert Christian came up short against Safford on Monday, falling 18-4. The Knights have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Gilbert Christian saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Layhlah Manley, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Abigale Trask also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
The win got ALA - West Foothills back to even at 2-2. As for Gilbert Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. ALA - West Foothills has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .538. However, it's not like Gilbert Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .442. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
