Monacan and Huguenot are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Monacan Chiefs will be playing at home against the Huguenot Falcons at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Monacan's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while Huguenot has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
Monacan posted their biggest win yet this season on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Clover Hill as Monacan made off with a 63-39 victory. Given Monacan's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 98th, while Clover Hill is ranked 303rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Monacan's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Amare Cooper, who scored 22 points along with three steals. Cooper hasn't dropped below 15points for three straight games. Samuel Sims was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Huguenot suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Wednesday. They had to suffer through a rough 78-37 loss at the hands of Manchester. Huguenot has struggled against Manchester recently, as their matchup on Wednesday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Monacan's victory bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Huguenot, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-8.
Monacan was able to grind out a solid win over Huguenot in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, winning 79-72. Does Monacan have another victory up their sleeve, or will Huguenot turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
