Basketball Recap: Lafayette Jefferson Drops Season-High Score on Purdue Polytechnic

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lafayette Jefferson). They breezed by the Purdue Polytechnic Techies to the tune of 83-49 on Saturday. The Bronchos have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matches by 21 points or more this season.

Lafayette Jefferson had a senior duo take command as Alonzo Clawson-Smith went 13 for 19 en route to 31 points and four steals and Devion Penny dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten boards. The game was Clawson-Smith's 12th in a row with at least ten points. Aaden Aytch was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds.

Several Techies players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Damion Green, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 15 points and four blocks. Green is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted three or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of James Long Jr., who went 5 for 8 en route to 13 points.

The win was the fourth in a row for Lafayette Jefferson, bringing their record for this year to 14-3. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.5 points per game. As for Purdue Polytechnic, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-8.

Lafayette Jefferson will take on McCutcheon at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. McCutcheon is on a four-game streak of home wins, Lafayette Jefferson a five-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for Purdue Polytechnic, they will face off against Indianapolis Arsenal Technical at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Indianapolis Arsenal Technical is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.9 points per game this season.
