Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail Division I recap Oct. 23, 2012
Trevor Turner and Dakota Brower provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Garden City. The connection was good for 80 yards, the longest such play in Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail Division I this season.
Hutchinson took down the Buffaloes 56-14 last week, the largest margin of any game. Turner threw for 159 yards and one touchdown and ran for 82 yards in the win.
Brower was the best wideout in the league this week as the Salt Hawks beat Garden City. Brower tallied one reception for 80 yards. Emilio Tafolla helped Hutchinson's passing attack out by catching one ball for 35 yards.
Jr. Guerrero made the biggest impact on defense this week as Haysville Campus defeated South. The 5-foot-5 senior pulled down one interception.
Mike Jones was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 26 carries, he ran for 137 yards as South bested Brian Hill's team. Justin Stonebraker also contributed to the rushing game with 52 yards on the ground.
The Colts' John Becker and Gabe Chavez have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail Division I in both passing and receiving yards. Becker has thrown for 594 yards this season, while Chavez, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 20 catches for 358 yards. The Cougars' Jones leads the league in rushing yards with 933.
South's Jones needs only 67 yards against Great Bend next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Maize takes on Randy Dreiling's team. The Eagles are currently in fourth, while the Salt Hawks are in third.
Maize and Dodge City played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Maize eventually emerging with a 54-51 victory.
