Riverside University/Meir will venture away from home to take on the Waukesha South Blackshirts at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Riverside University/Meir has four straight victories, Waukesha South has eight straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Riverside University/Meir is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 29-5 margin over Milwaukee Bradley Tech on Tuesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Chaeli Gutzmann and Bella Martinez did most of the damage at the plate: Gutzmann went 4-for-5 with six RBI, four runs, and two stolen bases, while Martinez went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and four RBI. Martinez continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Izzy Alvarado was another key player, going 3-for-4 with five runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Riverside University/Meir kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 21 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Waukesha South couldn't beat Catholic Memorial on Tuesday even though they stacked four runs on them in the fifth inning. The Blackshirts fell 11-7 to the Crusaders.
Layla Amerling was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Chiara Browne also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Riverside University/Meir's victory bumped their record up to 8-6. As for Waukesha South, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-10.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Riverside University/Meir hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .374. However, it's not like Waukesha South struggles in that department as they've averaged .320. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
