Hugoton hasn't had much luck against Colby recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. Hugoton will take on Colby at 4:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Hugoton will bounce into Tuesday's match after beating Goodland, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Eagles skirted past the Cowboys 10-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Eagles have posted since April 25, 2024.
Meanwhile, Colby had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 6-5 W against the Beavers. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Ryler Carter made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.4 strikeouts per game. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Sadie Cheney was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one triple. Jalyssa Sabatka was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Colby pushed their record up to 10-4 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Hugoton, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.
Hugoton couldn't quite get it done against Colby when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 17-13. Can Hugoton avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
