The Maxwell Wildcats will face off against the Wallace Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Maxwell is hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses.
Maxwell scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They took their match at home with ease, bagging a 65-31 win over Wauneta-Palisade. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory Maxwell has managed all season.
Among those leading the charge was Addison Tracy, who scored 12 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyce Cumming, who scored nine points.
Meanwhile, Wallace's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They were dealt a 77-40 loss at the hands of Hitchcock County. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Wallace has suffered yet this season.
Wallace's loss came about despite a quality game from Matt Lungrin, who scored 26 points. That was a full 65% of Wallace's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Maxwell's win bumped their record up to 3-12. As for Wallace, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Maxwell have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 24.3 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Wallace struggles in that department as they've been averaging 22.4 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Maxwell was able to grind out a solid win over Wallace in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, winning 55-43. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Wallace's Trey Robertson, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for Maxwell to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
