Volleyball Recap: Berkeley Takes a Loss

After flying high against Piedmont last Thursday, Berkeley came back down to earth. The Yellowjackets took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bishop O'Dowd Dragons on Tuesday. If the Yellowjackets were looking for revenge after losing 3-2 to the Dragons when the teams met back in October of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

The match finished with set scores of 25-23, 25-8, 17-25, 25-20.

Despite the defeat, Berkeley saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Stella Chen-McDermott had six digs and two aces. Chen-McDermott has been hot recently, having posted two or more aces the last four times she's played.

Berkeley's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 6-6. As for Bishop O'Dowd, they now have a winning record of 13-12.

Looking ahead, Berkeley will take on Alameda at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Bishop O'Dowd, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Encinal at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday. The Dragons are facing the Jets at the right time seeing as the Jets are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
