Honey Grove and Dodd City are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Warriors will square off against the Hornets at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Honey Grove will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.
Honey Grove proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by six) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Tom Bean 6-4.
Jarrmez Daniels made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Daniels was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in February.
In other batting news, Levi Beavers was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4. Another player making a difference was Brody Mahan, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Dodd City came up short against Tioga on Friday, falling 18-3. The Hornets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Dodd City saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Maddox Lappin, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-2. The Hornets are 2-1 when Lappin posts two or more stolen bases, but 2-10 otherwise.
Honey Grove's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-5. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Dodd City, their loss dropped their record down to 4-11.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Honey Grove has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Dodd City struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Honey Grove came up short against Dodd City when the teams last played back in April of 2024, falling 8-4. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
