Baseball Game Preview: Calhoun Red Devils vs. Man Hillbillies

The Calhoun Red Devils will head out on the road to face off against the Man Hillbillies at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Calhoun is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.

Calhoun was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Hannan on Monday. The Red Devils were the clear victors by a 20-1 margin over the Wildcats. The Red Devils have beaten the Wildcats the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Wildcats has come to flipping the script.

Chase Schoolcraft was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Calhoun is 6-2 when Schoolcraft allows one or fewer hits, but 6-15 otherwise. Schoolcraft was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.

In other pitching news, Reese Schoolcraft looked comfortable as he pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Calhoun got a massive performance out of Garrett Carpenter, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Carpenter is becoming a predictor of the Red Devils' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 8-16 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Ruger Carder, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one RBI.

Calhoun always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Man narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Lincoln County 4-2.

Calhoun's record is now 12-17. As for Man, their record now sits at 13-8.
