Obion County and Lake County are an even 4-4 against one another since March of 2019, but likely not for long. The Rebels will be playing in front of their home fans against the Falcons at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Having struggled with six losses in a row, Obion County turned things around against Bradford on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 13-4 margin over the Red Devils. The Rebels might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by six runs or more this season.
Meanwhile, Lake County had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They never let the Vikings get on the board and left with a 19-0 victory. That's two games straight that the Falcons have won by exactly 19 runs.
John Aydon Cochran and Sawyer Roberson were a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Cochran pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Roberson tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave Cochran a new career-high in strikeouts (two). At bat, Cochran scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Roberson scored three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-3. Lake County is 4-1 when Roberson posts two or more stolen bases, but 1-13-1 otherwise.
In other pitching news, Andrew Belt looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Cade Lanier and Chance Estes did most of the damage at the plate: Lanier scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances, while Estes scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-2. Estes has become a key player for Lake County: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-13-1 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryson Johnson, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.
Lake County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .750. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .528 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Obion County's win bumped their record up to 7-9. As for Lake County, their victory bumped their record up to 5-14-1.
Everything went Obion County's way against Lake County when the teams last played back in March, as Obion County made off with an 18-4 win. Will the Rebels repeat their success, or do the Falcons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
