If Cardinal Newman was feeling good fresh off their 28-0 takedown of Bishop Verot on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Crusaders took a 34-30 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Buchholz Bobcats on Friday. Despite 119 more yards than the Bobcats, the Crusaders couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.
Despite the loss, Cardinal Newman still got an impressive performance from Jyron Hughley, who rushed for 175 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 9.7 yards per carry, and also threw for 252 yards and one touchdown while completing 72.7% of his passes. Hughley's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 103 rushing yards. A healthy portion of Hughley's aerial production (205 yards to be exact) went to Leslie Mosley, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.
Buchholz got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Justin Williams out in front who picked up 164 receiving yards and a pair of scores, and also punched in one touchdown on the ground. That's the most receiving yards Williams has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Andrew Whittemore, who threw for 241 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 11.0 yards per attempt.
