Flatonia is a perfect 4-0 against Bloomington since March of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Bulldogs will face off against the Bobcats/Lady Cats at 6:00 p.m. Flatonia is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Flatonia took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They blew past Moulton 10-0. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Bulldogs considering their two-run performance the contest before.
Jalee Trussell was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. Trussell was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brealey Nieto, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Emma Kosler also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Flatonia was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .381. They are 7-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Bloomington was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 21st straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 25-0 to Shiner. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.
With the win, Flatonia broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 8-7-1. As for Bloomington, their loss dropped their record down to 0-13.
Bloomington's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Flatonia has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .495. It's a different story for Bloomington, though, as they've only averaged .267. Will they be able to contain Flatonia's hitters?
Flatonia took their victory against Bloomington in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 22-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
