No. 5 Waterford (6-5) at No. 1 Le Grand (11-0)Waterford is into the semifinals for the second consecutive year and the second time in school history. The Wildcats surprised No. 4 Rio Vista 35-28 to get here. Their reward is a rested and undefeated Le Grand team that is looking for its fourth straight Section championship. The Bulldogs are riding a seven-game playoff winning streak and with a win here they will be in their fifth straight championship game. Le Grand and Waterford have met in the playoffs once before – last year's D5 championship game, a 40-12 Bulldogs victory. Le Grand beat Waterford 52-14 in their Southern League game this year.
No. 3 Golden Sierra (Garden Valley) (6-5) at No. 2 Mariposa County (8-2)Welcome to one of the longest drives any team will make in any playoff game for any sport this season. If Golden Sierra takes Highway 99 down to Mariposa, it will have traveled 196 miles to play this game. The Grizzlies are into the semifinals for the first time since 2010, when they lost to Le Grand. Mariposa is into the semifinals for the first time since 2009 thanks to its first-round bye, it currently has a three-game postseason losing streak. These teams have met in the playoffs once before, a Golden Sierra 27-14 victory in the 2010 first round.
