Basketball Recap: Queen Creek Comes Up Short

Queen Creek played a tough match on Wednesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 67-16 loss at the hands of the Red Mountain Mountain Lions. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 200th, while the Mountain Lions are ranked 43rd).

Queen Creek's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Amaya Rodgers, who posted eight points in addition to five rebounds and five blocks, and Jessenia Attson, who put up six points and six rebounds. That's the most points Attson has posted since back in November of 2024.

Macy Johnson continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Red Mountain, putting up 14 points along with seven steals and five boards. Johnson has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sierra Mellish, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 11 points.

Queen Creek has been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 11 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season. As for Red Mountain, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 9-4.

Queen Creek didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 63-42 loss against Higley on the 10th. As for Red Mountain, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 47-25 win against Dobson on the 10th.
