The Kenesaw Blue Devils suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Monday. They took a serious blow against Elm Creek, falling 68-39. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Kenesaw in their matchups with Elm Creek: they've now lost eight in a row.
Several Blue Devils players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jorja Uden, who scored six points. Sophia Schukei was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Leading Elm Creek to victory were Kendal Cavenee and Ashley Bauer. Cavenee scored 19 points along with four steals, while Bauer dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. Bauer hasn't dropped below 15points for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Halle Knapp, who scored eight points along with four steals and two blocks.
Kenesaw's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-7. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 24.0 points per game. As for Elm Creek, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Kenesaw will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Deshler at 6:00 p.m. on January 25th. Deshler's defense has only allowed 28.2 points per game this season, so Kenesaw's offense will have their work cut out for them. Elm Creek won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Ravenna at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Ravenna will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings (they are ranked 201st, while Elm Creek is ranked 65th).
