Organ Mountain is 0-10 against Centennial since April of 2022 but things could change on Monday. The Knights will be playing at home against the Hawks at 7:00 p.m. Organ Mountain has given up an average of 7.1 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Organ Mountain is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Mexico's top teams: Las Cruces, who was ranked ninth at the time (Organ Mountain was ranked tenth). The Knights lost 13-1 to the Bulldawgs on Thursday. The match marked the Knights' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Organ Mountain saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Elizabeth Aguilar, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI. Kyara Chavez also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Centennial put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Gadsden a 14-0 shutout. The Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 16 games by six runs or more this season.
Destiny Perez made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Amaris Villegas was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Amanda Valles, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and three runs.
Centennial kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in eight consecutive contests.
Centennial pushed their record up to 19-0 with the win, which was their 19th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average this season. As for Organ Mountain, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-6-1.
Monday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Organ Mountain has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .466. However, it's not like Centennial struggles in that department as they've averaged .529. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Organ Mountain suffered a grim 7-0 defeat to Centennial in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Will the Knights have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
