Minico is 8-2 against Burley since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Spartans will look to defend their home field against the Bobcats at 6:00 p.m. The timing isn't great for Minico: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Burley has snatched up three consecutive wins on the road.
Things were looking good for Minico after they put the first points on the board on Tuesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Marsh Valley by a score of 10-9.
Noah Rich was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one double.
In other pitching news, Minico got a good showing from Braxon Trenkle, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest earned runs Trenkle has allowed over his last five matchups.
Back at the plate, Dominic Garza made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Cofer, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Burley never let their opponents score on Friday. They blew past Jerome 10-0. Considering the Bobcats have won five games by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Minico, Burley also got a great game from a two-way player: Mack Haynes. Throwing, Haynes tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Ike Redder tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. At the plate, Haynes went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one triple, while Redder scored two runs while going 1-for-3. Those three RBI gave Haynes a new career-high.
In other batting news, Casen Cooper was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Minico's defeat dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Burley, their victory bumped their record up to 7-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Minico has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Burley struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Minico was able to grind out a solid win over Burley in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 4-0. Do the Spartans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bobcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
