The Jay Mustangs came tearing into Friday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against Sotomayor by a score of 53-46. Winning is a bit easier when your three-point shooting is a whole 20% better than the opposition, as Jay's was.
Jay's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sincere Jackson, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 13 rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which Jackson has scored at least a third of Jay's points. Another player making a difference was Ny'ashia Barnes, who scored 16 points along with two steals.
Sotomayor lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Iyanna Dixon, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and three steals. Jah'dae Bussey was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with two steals.
Jay pushed their record up to 22-10 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.3 points per game. As for Sotomayor, their loss dropped their record down to 20-8.
Jay will head out on the road to face off against Holmes at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Holmes is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak. As for Sotomayor, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Harlan at 7:30 p.m. Harlan has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
