For the first time this season, Battlefield will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will take on the Osbourn Park Yellowjackets at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
Last Monday, Battlefield didn't have quite enough to beat Broad Run and fell 9-8.
Abby Burns and Jaylen Wright stepped up to the plate in a big way. Burns scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-4, while Wright scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Osbourn Park ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 15-13 win over Paul VI. The Yellowjackets' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Osbourn Park got a massive performance out of Jenna Wilson, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, seven RBI, and one double. Those seven RBI gave Wilson a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Gauri Saigal, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
Osbourn Park kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive matches.
Osbourn Park pushed their record up to 4-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Battlefield, their defeat ended an 11-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 1-2.
Battlefield's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's contest. Battlefield has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Osbourn Park, though, as they've been averaging only 0.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Battlefield continue to outrun the ball?
Battlefield came up short against Osbourn Park when the teams last played back in June of 2024, falling 3-0. Can Battlefield avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
